EPK vs Linktree: which link should you send?

Send a link hub when someone wants to explore your music. Send an electronic press kit when you need to introduce your project for a booking or press pitch. You can use both. The difference is the job you give the page, not the number of buttons it contains.

When Linktree is enough

A fan arriving from Instagram may want your latest track, tickets, merchandise or other social accounts. A link hub gives them several destinations without asking them to read a full introduction. Linktree's free plan includes unlimited basic links. You can link to your music, a video, a contact destination or an EPK hosted elsewhere.

Linktree also supports a bio, text links and email contact options. It is not limited to an unexplained list. If your existing page already gives the recipient enough context, you may not need another service. Check the current plan before relying on a particular embed or design option; basic links and advanced features are different things.

When an EPK helps

A venue receiving your pitch needs to understand the project, hear its current sound and find the right contact. An EPK brings that information together: a one-line hook, short bio, long bio, key release, useful links and booking contact. Those sections give a recipient material to read, forward and reuse, rather than just destinations to visit.

The advantage is deliberate writing and structure. A page with ten buttons and no introduction is not improved just by calling it an EPK. See our EPK section checklist for what to include. A good EPK does not guarantee a reply or replace a relevant pitch.

Use both without making people hunt

Keep your fan destinations in your link hub. Add a clearly named link such as “EPK and booking contact”. When emailing a venue, send the EPK address directly instead of asking them to find it inside your link hub. On the EPK itself, link directly to your key release and video. Avoid sending the reader back through another menu.

Follow the recipient's submission instructions first. If they request a PDF, a specific form or a technical rider, provide that format. A web EPK can support the submission, but it does not override their requirements.

Check your link before sending

  • Open it on your phone without signing in.
  • Can someone identify your sound and location before opening another page?
  • Does the key release open directly, rather than a generic streaming homepage?
  • Is the booking or press contact easy to find?
  • Are the bio and release details current, accurate and ready to forward?
